Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) issues –
knowledge you need to know about the patenting procedure
In many cases, the term “Technology Transfer” refers to the transfer
of rights of intangible intellectual property protected by a patent, copyright,
trade secret or trademark between parties. This module will aim to underline the
role of Intellectual Property Rights in the Technology Transfer process and
increase the SmEs capacity to exploit the intellectual property (IP) system to
enhance their competitiveness.
This seminar is organised in collaboration with regional Patent Office’s. it is
mostly a capacity building seminar dedicated to understanding and using
effectively IPR’s. In order to demonstrate the IPR dimension of TT the agenda is
considered with important IPR issues whilst presenting key points in technology
National IP office speakers will present the fundamentals of IPR’s and the ways
of handling them within different contexts. The international dimension of IPR’s
and typical IP problems appearing in Transnational Technology Transfer will also
be addressed from visiting speakers from the European Patent Office (EPO), World
Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) or IPR Help-Desk.
I addition reference will be made to the tools used to handle and leverage.
There are manifold benefits to IPR’s and they vary according to different
situations. As such one should be able to distinguish the right tools that need
to be used as well as have the skills to effectively exploit them. Regional and
National Offices have a range o tools that can be used.
The IPR seminar provide an opportunity for SmEs to increase their ability for
creating, identifying, protecting, using and leveraging intellectual property
assets and obtain a competitive advantage in the TTT-process. It is thought that
other potential developers/ recipients of technology such as RTOs, universities,
and research centres may well benefit from this seminar.
